Makeup has always been something that I love to play with and explore. I’m very simple when it comes to makeup, however, and I rarely do bold looks. My face has combination skin, which means some parts are oily and others are dry. All of the products listed below are suitable for combination skin. You can also find them at a makeup store near you! If you’re looking for some products that are perfect for a natural yet classy look, here’s what I use:
Primer: MAC Prep + Prime Skin Base Visage
This primer always leaves my skin feeling super soft and ready for makeup. When using any primer, don’t use too much. A thin layer of primer will make your foundation lay nicely on the skin. One or two pumps will do the trick. You can either use a brush or your hands to rub it onto the skin. I usually use my hands.
Foundation: Clinique Superbalanced Makeup Tint (B18)
I look for foundations that are light to medium coverage. This foundation is more light coverage, but it’s also buildable where you can add a second layer for medium coverage. I use a damp beauty sponge to blend it all over my face. The dampness of the beauty sponge will help with an even blend of liquid makeup products.
Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape (light neutral)
I love this concealer! It’s more on the medium coverage side, so I try not to use too much. I put concealer under my eyes and on any redness. I just put a few dots under my eyes instead of lines to save more product. I then use a damp small beauty sponge to blend it out.
Setting Powder: Laura Mercier Pressed Setting Powder / MAC Studio Fix (NW20)
The Laura Mercier Powder is translucent, and I use it to set concealer. The product comes with a sponge, but I use a larger brush to pick up a little bit of product at a time and apply it, so I avoid using too much. The MAC powder matches your skin tone and I use it to set my foundation. This product also comes with a sponge which I use to dab the powder on top of the foundation. Setting liquids helps them to stay put longer and gives a more matte look rather than shiny.
Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil (medium brown)
I prefer using brow pencils that can be sharpened instead of those that you twist up to get more product. I believe that regular pencils last longer especially if you do your brows every day. First, I brush out my brows and then I follow the shape of them with the pencil and fill in any space.
Blush: MAC Mineralize Blush (Warm Soul)
I use a medium sized brush to apply blush. I have naturally rosy cheeks, so I don’t pick up too much product with the brush. I dab the brush once or twice and then go back and forth on the center of my cheeks. If you accidentally put too much on, grab a beauty sponge and dab over it to get rid of some of the product.
Highlight: MAC Mineralize SkinFinish (Soft & Gentle)
I usually wear subtle highlighters that are also buildable. This one is subtle but can still be easily seen. It’s more of a pink-gold color and very pretty! I use a fluffy highlighting brush to apply it on the cheek bone. Don’t worry about putting too much on the brush since this product is subtle and it never hurts to have a little more shine!
Shadow: MAC “Smarty Pants” Palette (No Mercy)
I always use eyeshadow palettes with neutral tones such as light pinks, browns and golds. When I’m going for a natural everyday look, I use a light pink color just in my crease. “No Mercy” is the shade I use in this palette since it’s not too bold and a simple color to use when I’m in the mood to have a little color on my eyes. I use a fluffy blending brush to apply eyeshadow in my crease to blend it out.
Mascara: L’oréal Voluminous Lash Paradise (Black Noir)
This mascara is cheap and super pretty! You can find it at any drugstore, and it lasts for a few months. You may think that the brush will leave chunks on your lashes, but it doesn’t! This mascara evenly brushes out your lashes and makes them look longer and fuller. It also easily comes off with any makeup remover.
Setting Spray: MAC Fix+
Some people use setting spray and some people don’t. For me, I cannot do my makeup without setting spray. It’s so refreshing and keeps my makeup looking great all day! After a few even sprays about a foot away from your face from MAC Fix+, you’re ready to go! If you have some loose drops on your face, use a beauty sponge to press it into the skin.
All of these products are my go-to makeup essentials for natural looks. I think makeup is so much fun and I always find a reason to wear it. What makeup products do you use?
